Autograph Appraisals Give You an Accurate Understanding of the Value of These Collectibles

March 2, 2018 by Lynn

If you look back over the history of man’s time on this planet you will find that he has always had hobbies. Even when humans lived in caves, archaeologists have discovered that there were ways that men and women spent your time that was unrelated to finding food or shelter.

Through the millennia man has developed his taste for collecting things to include just about anything. Today, if you go around the world today you will find collectors of the widest variety of articles. One of the most popular things to collect today are autographs of famous people. This hobby is so popular in fact, that there is a thriving industry for autographed collectables that generates billions of dollars every year. Autograph appraisals are used to determine the value of a particular autograph and there are experts who can both recognize and give a price for a particular autograph.

Appraising an autograph

There are several steps required when appraising the value of a famous person’s autograph. The first and most challenging part of appraising an autograph is verifying the authenticity of the autograph. Often a famous person will sign his or her name differently throughout their career and even over a short period of time so it is not as simple as comparing the autograph against the famous person’s known signature.

In the end the appraiser must determine with complete certainty that the signature on the collectible is in fact that of the famous person. There are certain ways that an appraiser will seek to confirm the autograph’s validity:

Look for Past Authentications: Does the owner of the autograph have previous verification that the autograph and the memorabilia is authentic? Often autographs and memorabilia is authenticated by an expert and that experts name is included with the memorabilia and the signature. This allows the appraiser to look up the memorabilia and verify its validity.

Find Corroborating Data: An appraiser will often look for additional corroborating information that proves the autograph is authentic. Were there any pictures of the famous using this piece of memorabilia? Are there pictures of the famous person signing this particular piece of memorabilia? Was this particular piece of memorabilia mentioned by the famous person in any independent literature? Additional corroborating data helps an appraiser to authenticate an autograph.

Compare prices of similar memorabilia: Typically there will be other memorabilia that is similar to the memorabilia being priced, and an appraiser can you use the sales price of this similar memorabilia to set the price for any comparable memorabilia.

In the event there is no comparable memorabilia, the appraiser will look at a similar famous people and what their memorabilia selling prices are, in order to determine pricing. In the end, if there are no comparables, it is all guesswork, and one appraiser might determine a different value from another.

Top Safety Tips for Aluminum Roof Ladders

March 1, 2018 by Lynn

It is easier than ever to buy ladders for all sorts of different jobs now. In fact, you can go online and purchase aluminum roof ladders that allow you to climb up to great heights. While this convenience is a great development, is also means that we all need to take responsibility for how they are used. Consider that 43% of fatal fall accidents involve ladders and it quickly becomes clear how important safety actually is. And even if a fall isn’t fatal, it can still be life-changing.

Why You Need Aluminum Roof Ladders

There are many different reasons why people need to have these types of ladders. And there should be no need for people to call in expensive professionals every time they have a little job that needs doing either. Some of the reasons why people may require ladders, be they roof ladders, step ladders, or extension ladders, including:

To clean the gutters, paint their house, or change lightbulbs.

To complete their trade, such as painting, carpentry, or electrical work.

To complete general maintenance or stack goods in warehouses.

The list is endless! But no matter how endless it is, and no matter why someone uses a ladder, safety must come first at all times.

What Never to Do

Never:

Stand on the ladder’s top step, it will make it wobble.

Over-reach. If your belt buckle is outside of the ladder’s rails, you’ve gone too far.

Walk the ladder (standing on it and moving it)).

Place the ladder on unsuitable surfaces (slipper, wet, unstable, uneven).

Use the ladder when under the influence of alcohol or drugs (including medication), while tired, or when injured.

Forget about electrical wires. Aluminum ladders in particular conduct electricity and should not be used near wires at all.

Leave the ladder unsupervised.

What Always to Do

Always:

Make sure the ladder is completely open.

Put the braces securely in place.

Check the ladder is stable by wobbling it on the first step.

Hold the ladder properly.

Take all tools off the ladder’s top before you climb back down or move the ladder.

Work with a partner.

Check the ladder is suitable for your weight and that of the materials you are taking up with you.

Ladders are incredibly useful tools that are used in many different trades, but equally by domestic users, especially when doing home renovations. And that is a good thing. They have enabled us to complete a wealth of jobs, and they have made people more independent as well. Imagine having to call out a tradesman every time there is a leaf stuck in the gutter, or every time you need a lightbulb changing! However, it is incredibly important to remember that ladders are trade tools and they have inherent dangers associated with them. You must respect that fact so that you can use the ladder in a safe and responsible manner that does not cause any danger to yourself or to others.

The Best Valentine’s Day Gifts For Her

March 1, 2018 by Lynn

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and your loved one deserves a stress-free day. If you’ve been wondering what to buy for the special woman in your life, here are some ideas:

  1. Perfume – there’s no dearth of perfume choices for the woman in your life. This makes a thoughtful gift because it’s personal and practical. Make sure you know what her fragrance group preferences are. Is it floral, citrus, musk or rose, for example? Would she like something heavy or light and summery? Keep her personality in mind when you go out shopping.
  2. Gadgets – if she’s the kind who carries a large bag, get her a handy bag torch that will help her look for things in the dark. Or if she loves the latest IT gadgets, the Echo or a personal dock for her electronic devices would be ideal. We’d steer clear of kitchen goods which are a tad too functional for a Valentine’s Day gift; unless it’s something exclusive. A KitchenAid Artisan for your baking enthusiast is a good idea and you’ll also get to enjoy the rewards!
  3. Chocolate – a perennial favorite, you can’t go too wrong with chocolate. Unless she’s into counting calories. Then, she may not appreciate your sweet gift. But hey, low-cal and still delicious versions abound and you’re bound to find something you like. Why not a chocolate bouquet? It’s nice to look at and delicious to eat.
  4. Beauty subscriptions – this is a great gift for the beauty products aficionado. Choose among 3, 6 or yearly subscriptions. This will ensure that she gets to try out some of the best brands in the business in the comfort of her own home.
  5. Jewelry – this one is serious. Gift when you’re in a serious relationship that’s going somewhere. It doesn’t have to be a ring. It can be a bracelet, earrings or a chain. If you are looking at rings, why not consider vintage rings for a different feel and look? Vintage rings are timelessand can be worn every day or for special occasions. It depends completely on what the woman wants. Vintage rings carry a legacy and make for a unique Valentine’s gift.
  6. Books – no matter the occasion, books are always a great gift of knowledge. Find out what your lady love has in her wish list and gift them the books. Every time she reads the book, she will remember you and your thoughtful gesture.
  7. Flowers – Another hot favorite, say it with flowers if you so desire. You may want to consider the use of different flower arrangements rather than the clichéd bunch of flowers. Maybe a flower crown or a wall of flowers? Perhaps even a terrarium, for a special touch to her work desk. Or gift her a flowering plant so that it’s Valentine’s Day every day.
  8. Spa Day – women do so much work every day and handle work and home. They don’t always set aside time for themselves to relax. Why not help her do just that? Get her a day at the spa so that she can be pampered with treatments she can indulge in. Meet her for a relaxed dinner and enjoy the glow in her skin and her peaceful space of mind.

3 Tips To Protect And Improve Your Child’s Eyesight

February 28, 2018 by Lynn

Your child’s eyes are precious, and you should want to take steps to protect them. Considering how reliant we are on eyesight and the inconvenience that comes with poor vision, this should be a priority for all parents. In this article, we’re going to give you a few tips to protect and improve your child’s eye health and vision.

Limit Time with Screens Inside

Did your parents ever tell you to not sit so close to the TV or else it would hurt your eyes? It turns out there’s a measure of truth to this. A Korean study found that the more time they spend in front of computer screens and handheld devices, the more likely they are to need glasses. The theory is that the eyes start to adapt to the focal point that is most often in front of them.

The solution is to have the kids outside in the sunlight in more normal circumstances for at least an hour a day. This also reduces the risk of children becoming near-sighted because of other “near work” like reading all the time. According to this article that was published on apextribune.com, older siblings have a 10% greater risk of near-sightedness while it is 20% more likely they’ll develop a severe case. This isn’t completely understood, but you should pay special attention to your first born if you want to prevent vision problems from occurring later on.

Teach kids to take breaks, looking up and around instead of just at what is in front of them, whether a smart phone or print book. Stare for at least 20 seconds at something at least 20 feet away.

Eat Your Vegetables

Your child needs a regular intake of water soluble vitamins like vitamin A. Giving your children a healthy diet reduces their odds of developing diabetes as a major cause of poor eyesight issues later in life. And if your children get in the habit of eating fruits and vegetables containing lutein, there is some evidence this reduces the risk of cataracts later in life. Zinc deficiency is associated with poor vision, while eating it reduces the odds a child will develop poor night vision or macular degeneration.

Wear the Right Eye Protection

Eye protection is critical for sports like archery, fencing, hockey and racquetball. You should encourage your child to wear goggles when swimming to reduce the odds of both irritation from chemicals and eye infections from the faecal matter that contaminates many pools.

If they’re playing paintball, full facial shields should be a must. A paintball to the eye has a high chance of causing permanent blindness. And ensure that your child wears protective face shields and guards for sports like football and baseball. A ball to the face could cause eye damage or just take out a few teeth.

A healthy diet goes a long way towards protecting one’s vision. Getting into the habit of wearing protective eyewear could save your child’s vision at any point over their lifetime. And getting away from the computer screen and out into the world is good for their health in all respects.
