The Proper Way to Fix a Budget for Your Kitchen Refurbishment

November 10, 2017 by Lynn

If you feel your kitchen is due for a remodeling, refurbishment, or a complete overhaul, you may be both excited and worried – thinking about that beautiful new kitchen can make you energised, but thinking about the possible expenses might make you anxious. That’s perfectly normal; refurbishing projects rarely go without a hitch and require some careful planning.

Luckily, there are experts who are willing to give you some invaluable – and free – advice. Are you planning to upgrade your kitchen? Are you worried about the costs? If you’re a mother like me, you have to worry about grocery costs, clothes and much more. So that you don’t worry about a kitchen upgrade cost, here’s the proper way to fix a budget for your kitchen refurbishment.

Think about the budget, and stick with it

This seems obvious but it can be tempting to add during the project, and that’s often a mistake. When fixing your budget, consider that your labour costs can amount to anywhere from a fifth to a third of your budget. Secondly, consider the reasons of (and the long-term implications of) your refurbishment. Are you planning to move in a couple of years? Is it worth a large investment? Do some research.

Break it down

Once you’ve fixed your budget, list down what you really want and what your priorities are. Breaking down your budget into categories can guide your decision-making process. On the average, certain items require more funds than others:

  • Labour – 20 to 35%
  • Cabinets and worktops such as beautiful quartz worktops London from J.R. Stone – about 33%
  • Appliances – between 20 and 30%
  • Tiling, windows, and other items vary greatly depending on the quality.

Establish a buffer

It’s very common to have unexpected expenses when it comes to construction or renovation projects. This is not necessarily due to bad management or poor design choices, but simply because during the process unforeseen problems can pop up – for example: cracks in the walls, or the discovery that the plumbing is in bad shape. Establish a buffer; expect to spend 20% more than planned.

Keep track

During the project, money is going to flow out the window at a very fast pace. To avoid misunderstandings and unpleasant surprises, make sure you keep careful track of your expenses, and regularly check whether or not this fits with your budget planning.

Here’s one more important factor to consider whilst your kitchen is undergoing its renovation: do you plan on staying in the house? Staying somewhere else will encourage you to spend more. Furthermore, even if you decide to stay in the home whilst the work is going on, you’re probably going to be spending more money on take-out food or eating out. These expenses might be trivial, but many small expenses do make a larger amount, and it has to be factored in from the start. Your project needs to be planned well, and this includes the budget. Keep track of it carefully.

Reasons Why Miniature Circuit Breakers are Better Than Fuses

November 10, 2017 by Lynn

Miniature circuit breakers are automatically operated electrical switches that are designed to protect various electrical appliances. People are also protected against electrical shocks and other related issues.

Under normal working conditions, the amount of current flowing through a network causes no problems. However, if there is a fault which occurs in the network, or if the current exceeds the safe limit, this could lead to damage to appliances, and pose a huge risk to people. Therefore, the moment the electrical current surges, there should be something to regulate it, and this is where miniature circuit breakers are useful.

Previously, a fuse did the job. Fuses are still widely used to regulate the flow of current. However, these days, there is a preference for the use of miniature circuit breakers in most residential and commercial electrical installations. Here are some reasons why circuit breakers are more effective.

Circuit breakers are more sensitive

If there is abnormal current flow, the circuit breaker automatically switches off the electrical circuit. It stops all problems right away. This happens in less than a second. This is how effective they are in sensing problems. This is not necessarily the case if just using a fuse.

Faulty zones are easily identified

The good thing about circuit breakers is that if there are problems, the faulty zone is immediately identified. With a fuse, the wire needs to be checked through the fuse grip, which needs to be opened, in order to confirm where the faulty zone is. It takes time and effort.

There is a better interface

Using a knob, circuit breakers have a better interface compared with a fuse. With a fuse, the entire component needs to be taken out. Again, this takes a lot of time. It is not really ideal especially when it comes to emergency cases.

MCBs are generally safer

Compared with fuses, miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) are generally deemed safer. The overall design makes the circuit breakers easier to handle. There is also a lesser risk of fire and other problems. Circuit breakers are also reusable. They need not be maintained all the time. There is a smaller replacement cost. On the other hand, a fuse has to be replaced whenever it blows. Therefore, even if you feel like you have saved money because a fuse is cheap, you end up spending more in replacement costs.

With a Miniature Circuit Breaker, the upfront cost is a bit higher, but it can be used over a longer period of time. You won’t have to worry about safety and efficiency. There is no wonder most people now opt for miniature circuit breakers. They are also highly recommended by experts.

The Surprising Benefits of LED Lighting

November 10, 2017 by Lynn

LED lighting is getting popular these days. A lot of people have seen tons of benefits once they switched to this type of lighting. If you are still using traditional lights like fluorescent and halogen, it is time to shift to LED. Here are some more surprising benefits that will surely make you forget traditional lighting options.

  1. They won’t get hot

Unlike fluorescent and incandescent bulbs, LEDs don’t get too hot. You can touch them after hours of use and they will still not be as hot as other types of lights. This means there is less risk of accidental fires or skin burns. You will also save more money with LED lights. There is no wonder why museums and art galleries have already started using LED lights, as they need to use such lights for several hours each day and they have to keep the lighting cool.

  1. There are no emissions

We have all been taught about the harmful effects of UV rays from the sun. The truth is that UV emissions do not just come from the sun. They can come even from the lights used at home. LED lights have little to no UV emissions. It means that they are safer to use. They are also perfect for museums since artwork or exhibits on display are often sensitive to heat. The materials used for the frames, or exhibit cases, are also very sensitive.

  1. Light focus

LED lights are more popular as spotlights. In the past, external reflectors were necessary in order to focus the light on just one object. Light naturally disperses. However, with LED lights, there is higher application efficiency. LED lights that are well-designed have a better capacity to deliver a beam of light directly to the desired location.

  1. No flickering

Isn’t it annoying when the lights you use at home start to flicker? It does not just affect your vision, but it is also like being in a horror movie. This can be avoided with the help of LED lights. Fluorescent lights, on the other hand, will not provide optimum illumination until they have been running for a few minutes.

These are just some of the many benefits you will get from using LED lights. Whether you are planning to use them at home or for an art gallery, you will never go wrong with LEDs.

You can shop for LED lighting solutions in your local stores or just go online and find the best lights from sites like www.downlightsdirect.co.uk. They may be slightly costly compared with traditional lights, but you will still save a lot of money in the long run, as they last longer.

The Need to Buy GU10 Rated LED Lights

November 10, 2017 by Lynn

When buying downlights, you need to make sure that you choose a safe option. Downlights are generally used over an extended period of time. For instance, you use them in art galleries or museums. They highlight a certain object to make it clearer and more fascinating.

The problem with ordinary downlights is that they easily get hot. They also require more electricity to fully function. Worse, you have to keep replacing them since they only have a limited lifespan. Hence, LED downlights are now more popular. At first, they did not really catch on because the light produced was not as bright as traditional downlights. Eventually, better LED downlights were created. It takes several LEDs to create such a bright light, but it still works.

Of the downlights available, choose one that is GU10 rated. This means that it is a safer option. It does not heat up easily. It is not a fire hazard.

Installation is key

When you have bought the downlights, they have to be properly installed. The performance of the lights depends on the heat generated by the LED. If heat is not well-managed during the installation, it could affect the overall performance of the downlights.

Aside from choosing the right downlight, heat-sinking should also be considered. There is a metal device that you can buy which helps take the heat away from the LED.

The correct voltage must also be considered. This is why you need an expert to make sure the installation is carried out safely and correctly. Otherwise, the lights might even end up exploding.

Choosing the best light

In determining which LED downlight to buy, you need to consider its purpose. Where are you going to place it? How long do you want it to last? What colour do you want? While answering these questions, you will gradually filter the options until you end up with the perfect choice.

LED lights change in colour over time due to the frequency of use and temperature. This should not deter you from choosing LED downlights though.

You need to make sure you are getting a correctly rated GU10 LED bulb before paying for it. You might have a hard time looking for a GU 10 rated light in your local stores. But you can go online and start looking for the best choices.

Once you have bought the right downlight, ask an expert to install it for you. Better yet, before you even consider buying one, consult an expert in downlights. You will receive guidance on which downlights to buy and how you can save money using them. It won’t take much time to get them installed if you choose the right person to help you.

Avoid These Mistakes When Choosing a Wedding Venue

November 7, 2017 by Lynn

Wedding preparations are tough. Some couples have to wait for months or even years before getting married because of all the preparations. There are even those who have unfortunately decided to call off the wedding.

The venue is one of the reasons why wedding plans are difficult. You might have a lot of criteria when it comes to the venue and it is your right to select the best place. However, even if you have found the perfect location, your desired date might not be available. Therefore, you have to adjust the date again and consult with everyone else regarding their availability. By avoiding these mistakes when choosing your wedding venue, dress and catering, your dream wedding can finally come to fruition.

  1. Booking the venue without finalising the details

You shouldn’t just book a venue in fear that you won’t have it on your desired date, unless you reserve it now. You should finalise the guest list first. You should check the cost and compare it with other venues in the area. If you rush this process, you might regret it. You might find a better venue later. Worse, the venue might not be large enough to accommodate everyone you have invited or wish to invite.

  1. Not asking about the complete fees

Don’t just ask for the cost of the reservation. There could be extra charges you need to be aware of before you finalise the deal. Once these hidden fees are charged, the total could be much more, and you might just want to change your mind regarding the reservation. Ask about all the fees in advance and everything they cover.

  1. Failure to understand the cancellation policy

Let’s face it. Even if you have already decided on the date and other details of the wedding, things could still go wrong, and you might have to postpone the wedding. Therefore, you need to know what the cancellation policy is at your chosen venue. If they don’t allow cancellation, you won’t have any choice but to pay the full cost and this could be very high.

  1. No contingency plan

If you have chosen an outdoor wedding venue, you should be prepared for all possibilities. Even if the weather forecast says the weather will be fine on your wedding day, you can’t trust it completely. In the event the weather changes, you should have an alternative venue so that the wedding can continue.

Now that you understand some common mistakes in booking a wedding venue, you can continue all your plans. Be more particular, especially if you are booking Asian wedding venues. You should also not forget to ask exactly what is included for what you have paid, so you won’t have to spend more money on any unexpected items later.
