What is Self-Care and Why is it Important?

July 22, 2022 by Lynn

With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we often forget to take care of our wellbeing. Self-care isn’t about being selfish – it’s allowing yourself to put your own needs first for the sake of your health and happiness.

Burning the candle at both ends, will ultimately lead to exhaustion, which can lead to an array of illnesses, as well as anxiety, stress, and depression. Many of us are guilty of not making changes until we reach our limit. Now is the time to step back and evaluate your emotional and physical needs.

In this guide, we’re going to look at some of the ways you can manage self-care.

Maintain a healthy work-life balance

It is commonly the case that people choose to work every hour under the sun for their own professional development, or in fear of falling behind on tasks, but maintaining a work-life balance is key to health and happiness.

Being overworked, can not only make you less motivated, but can lead to an string of health problems including stress, anxiety, and even a weakened immune system. Pledge to set boundaries and stick to them. Take breaks throughout the day and when your shift ends, turn your work phone off to give you the chance to unwind.

Get health check-ups

One of the main reasons people fail to book health-check appointments, is because they’re worried about wasting medical time. However, regular check-ups, mean your wellbeing is being monitored and you can be treated for illnesses as soon as they arise. The same goes for dental appointments. People often skip dental visits as they believe their teeth are in good shape, but later down the line, they can start to suffer from severe tooth and gum problems. With this in mind, you should book your dental appointments in good time with northwickmanordental.co.uk.

Learn to say No

It can be difficult to say ‘no’ when you’re put under pressure to do something, but it’s your right to refuse if you simply cannot commit yourself, or don’t feel well enough to do so. When you accept a proposition at the expense of your own health, you’re losing control of your independence. Remember that you’re only human and you can’t be in more than one place at a time. Next time you’re worried about saying no – just say it, and explain your reasoning. Bet you’ll be surprised that the reaction won’t be as bad as you think…

Take a digital detox

Are you guilty of spending hours scrolling through your phone? While there’s nothing wrong with staying connected with your friends and followers on social media, it may be time to take a break (otherwise known as a digital detox) if it is starting to impact your mental health. What’s more, being glued to a screen, means you’re missing out on the world around you – and that’s precious time you’ll never get back.

Self-care practices may take time to put into action, but by giving yourself the chance to put yourself first for a change, you should start to notice a huge improvement in both your mindset and your physical wellbeing.

The Importance Of A Daily Routine For Children: How To Get Started

July 15, 2022 by Lynn

Children need routines and schedules to help them feel comfortable in their home environment and help parents understand what’s expected of them. However, the development of a routine takes time and patience, which is why it’s important for parents to start early on in their children’s lives.

Beginning With A Good Bedtime Routine

A good bedtime routine is important for the health and well-being of your children. It helps them wind down, sleep well, and feel supported. As a parent, you want to be sure that your children are developing a healthy sleep schedule that will last into their adult lives.

In addition, a good bedtime routine ensures you have an opportunity to show them some love before they go off to sleep. It also gives you one last chance to set expectations for tomorrow’s activities so that everyone knows what is expected from them when they wake up in the morning.

Start With An Easy To Read Chart

For a child to successfully integrate their daily routine into their life, you will need to begin with an easy-to-read chart. The chart should be in a place where it can be seen by the child, the parent, and possibly even the teacher. If possible, make sure that the chart is posted in multiple places throughout your home and school to keep it fresh in everyone’s minds.

Use stickers or other markers if necessary so that each activity has a color code. This will allow everyone involved (including yourself) to know exactly what needs to be done at any given time of day or night without asking questions whenever someone comes home from work.

Scheduling Non-Routine Appointments And Activities

Setting up a routine for your child is an important step in helping them develop good habits, but it is also important to schedule non-routine appointments and activities. You must make sure you stick to your schedule for yourself and your children. For example, if you find that you need to go to a dental appointment somewhere like the-oakwoodclinic.co.uk, you will have to make sure that you account for this.

You may find that there are days when things do not go according to plan, which can be frustrating. However, this does not mean that you can’t stick with the daily routine; instead, it means that changes will need to be made, so they fit within the overall scheme of things.

When making these changes, they mustn’t disrupt their daily schedule too much, either by adding too many appointments or changing times without adequate notice. On the other hand, if this happens often enough, your child may become familiar with what happens when plans change last minute, making them anxious about what might happen next time.

Creating A Daily Routine

The importance of a daily routine is often overlooked, but it’s an essential part of your child’s development. A good daily routine will help your child feel more secure and confident because they know what to expect daily. It also gives them structure, preparing them for school and other social situations later in life.

A good strategy when creating a daily routine is to choose one or two tasks you want your child to do every day, such as brushing their teeth before bed, then gradually add more until the full routine is established. You can even use charts or stickers as rewards for completing each step!

Relax on the white sandy beach

The best beach in Alcudia is certainly Alcudia Beach. This stretch of pristine fine sand is the longest beach in Mallorca and matches the beauty of other world class beaches. The white sand and turquoise sea compliment the golden sun on the horizon. Alcudia Beach is shallow and calm, making it fabulous for child-friendly activities. If action is more your style, this beach is the best spot for windsurfing and paragliding. ___________________________________________________________________

Explore the charming town of Pollensa

Just a 15 minute drive from Alcudia is Pollensa, one of the most beautiful cities in Mallorca. In the city center lies the ancient origin of the city. 3 Ways To Help Your Kids Become More Comfortable Around The Elderly

June 27, 2022 by Lynn

The many young kids, being around older people can be a little intimidating and scary. Especially if the elderly people that they are around are sick or have the need for being in an assisted living facility, you may find that your kids are even more uncomfortable interacting with them. But if you want your kids to be comfortable and respectful around the elderly, there are things you can do to help achieve this.

To help you see how this can be done, here are three ways to help your kids become more comfortable around the elderly.

Allow Them To Start Off Slow

As with doing anything new or going into any situation when your kids are uncomfortable at first, it’s best to allow them to start off slow.

Ideally, you should allow your kids to move further into a conversation or interaction with an elderly person at their own pace. You could have them sit away from the group or stand behind you while you interact with them. Then, as they get more used to the environment and the person or people that you’re interacting with, there’s a good chance that they’ll see how easy it is for you and want to give it a try themselves.

Encourage Them To Ask Questions

Kids almost always have a lot of questions about things, and when they see or interact with an elderly person it will be no different. However, your child might be too nervous to ask their questions, or they may have been told not to ask certain types of questions in the past to avoid being rude or disrespectful.

In order for your child to feel comfortable, they will likely need some more information about who the elderly person is that they are interacting with. So if you’re in a situation where you can speak together, it may be wise to encourage them to ask any questions they have to the elderly person they are with. While you might need to help facilitate the communication, especially if your child is soft-spoken, this can be a great way to break the ice.

Give Them Something To Do Together

Just wanting your kids to speak to an elderly person might not be the best course to take. Rather, you should try to give them something that they can do together. By doing this, there will be something to serve as a distraction so that all the attention isn’t on your child or on the elderly person. And if the task they are working on necessitates them working together, this can help them to quickly become comfortable around each other as they work toward a common goal.

If you’re wanting to help your children become more comfortable around older adults, consider using the tips mentioned above the next time your child interacts with the elderly.

Thrifting Done Right: How To Care For Items That You Bought From A Thrift Store

May 24, 2022 by Lynn

Thrift shopping can be a great way to get the items you need without spending a lot of money. One possible reason for this is that the items are often in good condition and have been taken care of. Another is that thrift stores have frequent sales and discounts on certain products. And finally, many people donate their old yet quality clothes to thrift stores, which you can bag at discount price tags.

However, while you can use these items to save money, you’ll often come across dirty and grimy stuff as well because people have donated them without washing them first. But even if they are laundered, it’s still advised to take the time to clean these items if you get them from a thrift store. So, here are a few suggestions on how to care for items that you brought from a thrift store:

Furniture

When you buy furniture from a thrift store, it’s usually in a good state but not necessarily in perfect condition. There are often a few stains, scratches, or tears that may need to be fixed or cleaned before using the piece for its intended purpose.

The first step to cleaning any item is assessing what needs to be done. For example, if the stains on your furniture can be removed with water and a cloth, this would be an easy fix.

However, if the stains cannot be removed in such a simple way, you may need to use other methods like rubbing alcohol or bleach. Depending on what type of furniture you get from a thrift store, you can always get cleaning products, such as a leather cleaner or sandpaper and varnish to shape and coat wooden furniture.

Clothes

Thrift stores are great places to find gently used clothing items – but they can also be a challenge to clean. The clothes you get from these stores can be stained with dirt or cosmetic products, and it can be challenging to remove those stains without using harsh chemicals.

Fortunately, you can clean your new articles of clothing with water, vinegar, and baking soda. You should soak the item in the solution for about 20 minutes before washing. You can also use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the dirt and dust from your clothes. However, if you’re struggling to get rid of stains, you can also take your clothing to a professional cleaner similar to this Croydon Dry Cleaning service for a deep clean.

Wooden Items

You can remove some stains from your wooden thrift store finds by using lemon juice and salt. Mix equal parts lemon juice and salt in a bowl, then dip your wood item in it for about 10 minutes before rinsing with water and drying off with paper towels or a regular towel. You could also try using a rag dipped in vinegar for this method.

Jewelry

Finally, the most effective way to clean jewelry you get from a thrift store is by taking off any accessories that may have been added to the piece, such as necklaces, ribbons, and chains, and clean it with a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice.

You can also use dish soap and water in place of baking soda and lemon juice. If you don’t have any of these items, you can also use toothpaste, which has abrasive properties that will help remove stains.
