Spokane Family Fun & Fitness – Hit Pit MMA/10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu

My son was super excited when I told him we were going to try out a couple of Jiu-Jitsu class. He’s never done any martial arts but has been interested in it. When he found out there was also an MMA class available – well he was beyond happy.

Hit Pit MMA /10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu is located in the Spokane Valley, on Argonne right off Sprague.

They are a community based martial arts gym that focuses on 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu. They offer training and classes dedicated to those that are beginners or advanced, in shape or out of shape. They also offer a versatile training program and are the only certified Eddie Bravo Jiu Jitsu affiliate in Eastern Washington. Train with Hit Pit MMA and enjoy a friendly or competitive session with a great team.

My son took two of the classes offered – youth Jiu-Jitsu and youth mixed martial arts (MMA). There are other classes available though – for all levels.

  • For youth, there is Jiu-Jitsu, Striking, Ultimate, Wrestling and MMA.
  • For teens, there are two MMA classes.
  • For adults, there is MMA Fitness, Jiu-Jitsu, Sparring, MMA, Throws/Takedowns and Striking/MMA.
  • There is also two classes of Jiu-Jitsu a week just for women!

I asked my son what he thought….but also wanted to share my thoughts too.

“I liked doing Jiu-Jitsu because the instructors were really nice, they didn’t try to teach me anything really hard and didn’t let anyone use anything I hadn’t learned yet. I only learned 4 moves so when we did sparring I didn’t have a variety of choices like the other kids but I hope I get to learn more.”

Personally, he plays football. We invest a lot of time and money into his team and I have to be honest, my first thought was that he was going to get hurt and then he wouldn’t be able to play football for the rest of the season.

I was wrong.

The instructors were amazing! They were very careful as it was his first time. His first class was with Jessie, who was patient and really took the time to show him the basic moves in both Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.

On his second class, he was able to work with Coach Dub, who was absolutely amazing with all of the kids in the class. He was positive (nothing was ever wrong – there were just ways to improve) and motivating. He has a smile for everyone and really worked with the kids to improve their stance or the hold they were working on.

If your child is wanting to get into Jiu-Jitsu or into MMA, I would highly recommend Hit Pit MMA/10th Planet Jiu Jitsu. With amazing instructors, a variety of classes and a place where parents can also workout, you can’t go wrong.
