What to Expect When You’re Expecting

You may have already watched the movie or at least heard about the movie What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Did you know that the movie is based off the What to Expect book series?

What to Expect When You’re Expecting was actually the very first pregnancy book I read, when I was pregnant with my oldest, about six years ago. I even skimmed through it, throughout this last pregnancy. The book discusses all kinds of things every women should know about pregnancy, like how your body can and will change, what to look forward to at the doctor, and signs to look out for, in labor and after.

This book really helped me through my first pregnancy. I literally had no idea what I was doing, like most women having their first baby. Plus, it was fun to follow along with each month and as the baby grew inside my belly.

Reading it again, with this last pregnancy, I did noticed some things that are not talked about in the book, that I really wish they would include. Like, having a midwife instead of a doctor, and talking more about home births and breastfeeding. All of which I think are just as important.

After giving birth to your little one, you can start the next book in the series, What to Expect – the First Year and follow that one up with What to Expect – the Second Year: From 12 to 24 Months.

Now, these books are NOT manuals. They won’t teach you how to be a parent, let alone a good one. They are simply guides, to reassure you that you are not alone.

Besides their book series What to Expect also has a great online community. You can sign up and participate in the forums, ask for advice, search for topics, follow along with your pregnancy calendar, and so much more.

To get you started, I have two sets of all three books to give away to two of you. Just use the RC form below to enter, good luck!

About Hanan Webster

In 2010, Hanan went from talking about her parenting up’s and down’s on private forums to discussing them with literally everyone on the internet with her blog lilac city momma. Since then, she’s had the opportunity to talk about parenting, cooking, photography, marriage, crafts, faith, and so much more. She also shares her opinions on everyday products from food to baby gear, and everything in between. With three little girls all under six, there is never a dull moment in their home. When she’s not blogging she’s chatting about parenting and life in general on Facebook and Twitter, or wasting way too much time on Pinterest.

  2. My midwife does not like this series. As you said, there’s nothing for a natural pregnancy, it’s all about a medical one. I read each week to see where Logan was growing but that’s it. The book talks about everything that can go wrong and my friend was so paranoid she was in the hospital for check ups every three days.

My brothers girlfriend is pregnant, I gave it to her telling her to take it with a grain of salt and trust her body. She also is more into the awesome baby tracker :)
