With all the smart phones, iPad’s, computers, and television, our children are starting to get further away from the fundamentals of play time and learning.
Imaginative and cognitive play.
Growing up in the early 90′s, our idea of a fun time was climbing trees, riding bikes around the neighborhood, playing with Barbie’s, and building little houses out of blocks.
Now that I have three children of my own, we try and limit the amount of time they spend on electronics and instead encourage dress up, playing outside, reading books, and building with K’NEX Lincoln Logs.
Such a simple idea, that can create hours of fun for both my five and two year old’s.
Even daddy likes to get down on the floor and help the girls build.
Lincoln Logs building sets are a part of the K’NEX family. At K’NEX our goal is to provide the finest in imaginative and creative toys for your child. We know that play is the work of childhood and a pre-requisite to the development of many important skills and abilities. When your child is building with Lincoln Logs, they are doing more than just building cabins — they’re also building:
- Fine motor skills, such as hand-eye coordination
- Cognitive skills as they make decisions and solve problems
- Creativity skills by designing their own “masterpiece”
- Social skills as they build with friends and siblings
- Language skills by talking about what they’ve built

Lincoln Logs are made out of real wood, so they do last a long time, as long as the dog doesn’t get a hold of them.
We actually bought the girls a set of Lincoln Logs, a couple of years ago for Christmas. Just recently, they sent the girls’ the White River Ranch 90 piece set. Almost every day, Carleigh asks us to pull them out to play with. Want to know what she thought of them?
What else would a five year old say?
Thanks to K’NEX, one Lilac City Momma reader will win a White River Ranch Lincoln Log set too! Enter to win below.
I received the product mentioned above for my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When I worked in child care, we had these and all the kids loved them! I didn’t even think about buying them as a gift. What a good post to remind me!
