Special Thanks to my friend Andrea over at Tales of an Over Stuffed Princess for sharing her review with us!
Weight loss is hard! I don’t think anyone can refute that fact. I have my ups and downs. As a busy mother of 2 school-age kids, eating properly is definitely a challenge.
I was recently lucky enough to sample Dr. Tabor’s Slim & Beautiful snacks from Healthy Directions. The 7 piece sampler kit includes 1 Chocolate Little Black Dress Shake, 1 Vanilla in Vogue Shake, 1 Double Chocolate Catwalk Bar, 1 Yogurt Almond Allure Bar, 1 Smaller Chin Cheddar Nibbles Snack, 1 Smaller Belt BBQ Nibbles Snack, 1 Smaller Skirt Salted Nibbles Snack, 1 Little Black Diet Book and 1 Quick Start Guide Card.
I first read through the product information that came with the samples. A recommended diet was provided and I decided that I was going to do this the way they had outlined.
Breakfast: a protein shake with a piece of fruit
Mid-Morning Break: salty Crispy Lace Non-Naughty Nibbles snack
Lunch: chocolate protein bar and a Crunchy Non-Naughty Nibbles snack
Mid-Afternoon Break: a piece of fruit
Dinner: a hot entree with two steamed vegetables
Nighttime snack: a bowl of frozen fruit melody
Fluids: as much calorie-free fluids as desired
Walking: 30-45 minutes, six times per week (or other activity)
Total Calorie Count: About 1200 calories
The shakes were my least favorite. You can use either water or milk and then blend it or shake it to mix. I used water with the chocolate as I cannot drink milk. I don’t have a blender, so I just shook well to mix it. There was a metallic aftertaste that I wasn’t fond of. With the vanilla, I used soy milk. It was much more enjoyable (and had a better flavor) but there was still the metallic flavor that I couldn’t get over.
Each shake contains 20 grams of milk protein and three grams of dietary fiber to satisfy your hunger and help you feel full. Each shake contains 600 milligrams of calcium to help support strong bones and contains less than two grams of total fat to help reduce the amount of high-calorie fat you consume each day.
The Crispy Lace Non-Naughty Nibbles were delicious! You definitely knew they weren’t potato chips but they have the same crunch and flavor so that you don’t feel deprived in eating them. The BBQ was my favorite flavor with the cheese flavor followed close behind. I would eat these again in a heartbeat.
Baked (not fried) snacks contain only 100 calories per serving and give you 7 grams of protein per serving.
The protein bars were strange. I ate the chocolate peanut butter one first. The outside was covered in chocolate and the inside was supposed to taste like peanut butter. Instead, the inside tasted more like nugget. There was a slight flavor of peanut butter but you could tell it was more artificial. It wasn’t unpleasant but I don’t think I would include it in my diet everyday. I did eat the whole bar, so it couldn’t have been too bad right? The almond yogurt bar was tasteless to me. There wasn’t much flavor and the inside of the bar was much the same as the chocolate – a nugget type consistency.
Bars contain 20 grams of milk protein to satisfy your hunger and help you feel full. Bars and shakes are gluten-free and trans-fat-free. They are clinically tested to have a low-glycemic index, compared to glucose sugar, which avoids causing rapid blood sugar spikes.
The best part of all of it was how satisfied I was. With the protein and the fiber in each item, it was keeping me full. By dinner, I wasn’t hungry at all! Usually I find myself doing late night snacking but I didn’t have an urge this day.
While I still believe that the healthiest way to lose weight is to eat a mix of fresh vegetables, fruits and lean meats – I’d add in the Nibbles to my routine, for sure.

I love that they actually kept you full! I need to look into these, great review!
I want to try a protein shake diet so bad, but even though people say breastfeeding and doing it at the same time is fine, it still makes me nervous. When little man self-weans, it’s something I’m totally going to look into.
Kendall recent post: Washing and Stripping Cloth Diapers
How come it makes you nervous? When you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you actually need twice the amount of protein they recommend.
It’s too bad that a few of the things didn’t taste very good, though it’s always difficult to find diet items like these that are actually as delicious as the items you’re steering away from. But it’s really great to hear that it kept you full! That’s what really matters I suppose. Thanks for sharing this, I’ll look into them and see if they’re right for me!
