Today I am going to show you how to make a cute dog collar!
I love to make things for my dog Daisy Mae! She needed a new collar and I didn’t feel like spending money on a new one soooo I made one!

Here is what you’ll need:

♥ Some Fabric
♥ Thread and Needle (or a Sewin Machine)
♥ D Ring
♥ Strap Closure
♥ Pins
♥ Iron

Lets make a Dog Collar:

1. Measure your dogs neck and then add 2 inches to both sides.

2. Open your fabric and cut 2 pieces that measure 2 inches wide and however long your measurement was in the previous step.

3. Heat up your iron and then fold over the short edges of your strips and iron them so you have a crisp end on each.

4. Fold the long ends in toward each other and iron them too. You can now decide how wide you want your collar. My dog has a big neck so I wanted mine to be about an inch wide. Just make sure its at least the size that will fit through your rings and closures.

5. Your strips should now be the width you wanted them to be and pressed straight.

6. Now take your strips and put them right sides together. Sew one side of the strips together. You can use a sewing machine or hand sew it. Once its sewn together, turn the strips wrong sides together and pin them all the way down.

7. Once you have them all pinned you can then begin to sew them together as close to edge as you can, making sure to sew through both layers, all the way around.

8. Now that you have your collar sewn all the way around take your closers and D ring and insert the ends into them about an inch. Make sure the side that you choose to put the D ring on, you put the D ring on before that end of the closure. Use a pin and pin the end to the inside of the collar, and measure it around your dogs neck, being careful not to poke them, to make sure its still big enough or small enough for their neck.

9. Sew through all 4 layers of the loops to enclose the ring and closure. If your hand sewing, make sure to sew a few times over the edge so there is a strong hold. If you are using a sewing machine you can make an X over the loop or just sew and back stitch to make it stronger.

10. Tada! You did it! Here is what your final project should look like!

Now you can add any decorations to it or just leave it plain! I decided to add a flower to mine! Since my dogs name is Daisy, it only seemed appropriate! (If you would like to also learn how to make a scrap flower you can go here: Scrap Flower)

Here is Daisy chewing her bone and wearing her new collar!

I hope your dog enjoyed your making this project and you had fun making it! Please stop by my blog or shop to say Hi and let me know what you think! Thanks Hanan for letting me be a part of Domestic Diva Series! Happy Crafting!
